Kelli Owens Hutton made a record called Soccer Trophy and in the process created a genre called MomCore.
MomCore is brutally honest, unfiltered 2 minute guitar driven rock and roll songs about life as a mom, kids, middle-age, and marriage. It’s also funny, revealing and moving. Soccer Trophy clocks in 8 songs in 18 minutes because mom's just don't have time for shit.
Kelli partnered with Grammy-nominated (in children’s music, but still...) producer Liam Davis. They made the record in her Chicago home studio, aka the laundry room. A multi-instrumentalist Kelli played every instrument on the record except the drums. Ok, she played bass on like half the songs too.
A Berklee College Of Music grad and major-label wash out (Atlantic records but who’s counting) Kelli took a long time off making music to raise her kids. They are a pain in the ass but she loves them anyway. The Dog of course comes first. Somewhere in there is also her husband.
Kelli is currently working on more MomCore, with songs including “Keep Looking,” “Man Flu” and “Back In The Basement.” Soccer Trophy is streaming on all platforms and features the single “You’re Such An Asshole.”
And then there are the Housewives.
A longtime fan of Bravo’s The Real Housewives, Kelli started turning iconic Housewives quotes, fights and completely unhinged moments into original songs and videos—and people started paying attention.
Her Housewives videos have racked up hundreds of thousands of views on Instagram, with songs and clips inspired by some of the franchise’s most memorable women and moments. Housewives themselves have watched, liked, commented and followed, and Bravo has joined the conversation too.
Her original song “The Housewives” turns years of iconic quotes into music, while tracks like “I Said It First, You're A CvnT” take the Housewives universe somewhere between rock song, dance track and musical recap.
Basically, Kelli writes songs about the things she can’t stop thinking about: motherhood, marriage, kids and women screaming at each other on Bravo.
Kelli created The MomCore Show which brings her music and comedy together. She performs her MomCore songs with her band and some of Chicago’s top improvisers from Second City & iO, create scenes based on her songs. Kelli also has stand up comedians perform throughout the show. The MomCore Show has sold out the main stages at The Annoyance Theatre and the historic Fitzgerald’s Night Club.
